DBA / fictitious name

Also called: fictitious name, fictitious business name, assumed name, trade name, doing business as

A name a business operates under that is not its legal name - 'doing business as.' Also: assumed name, trade name, fictitious business name. Which office takes the filing (state, county, municipal - or none) varies by state; a few states have no DBA mechanism at all.
